Okay, need to clarify something here. The teardrop tattoo on someone's face does NOT necessarily mean that they have killed someone or done time in prison. An open teardrop means that you have lost someone close to you. The only way to know for sure is to ask someone - why the teardrop? Keep in mind though that if they have killed someone, they may not want to talk about it! But these are the three basic reasons. Another one, the half filled-in tear, means that you lost someone close to you and you killed the person who was responsible for their death. Ivan Moody the singer for FFDP (think I've heard of them!) wears a teardrop tattoo in remembrance of his grandmother who meant a lot to him.
